Reviewer Biographies

Waldemar Bussiahn
is a full time photography lecturer at the Tshwane University of
Technology in Pretoria, South Africa.
He has been lecturing for nineteen years and has taught
subjects such as Photographic Physics and Chemistry I, Photographic
Techniques I and II, Theory of Photography II, III and IV and
Applied Photography I, II, III and IV.
He currently teaches
Visual Communication III, Theory of Photography III and IV and is in
charge of the B Tech Degree students who are in their fourth year of
study. Waldemar has also co-supervised Master students.
He is currently busy with his PhD studies, looking at the
therapeutic effects of landscape photography.

Des Crawley
is an Emeritus Professor of the University of Western Sydney,
Adjunct Professor of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology
University and is currently Professor and Director, Centre for
Creative Exchange at James Cook University. He is an Honorary Fellow
of the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers and was
Foundation President of the PIEA in Australia.
He has been involved in photo education at a national and
international level for 40 years. He was Dean of Faculty for 27
years where he provided leadership in curriculum development and
innovation.

Andrew Davidhazy
is Chair of the Imaging and Photographic Technology Department at
Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. He has over 30
years of experience and while specializing in scientific and
technical aspects of photography he is almost equally active in the
application of technical imaging concepts to aesthetic purposes. He
has lectured and exhibited widely and his writings have been
published in numerous books, articles and journals. He is a
recipient of the Eisenhart Award for Outstanding Teaching at RIT and
is a Fellow of the Society for Imaging Science and Technology and
the International Society for Optical Engineering.

Bill Gratton-

Robert Hirsch
is an artist, curator, educator, historian and author of
Light and Lens: Photography in
the Digital Age, Seizing the Light: A Cultural History of Photography,
Photographic Possibilities:
The Expressive Use of Equipment Ideas, Materials, and Processes,
and Exploring Color Photography: From the Darkroom to the Digital Studio.
A German edition of Light and
Lens, Mit der Kamera sehen: Konzeptionelle Fotografie im digitalen Zeitalter,
has just been released.
Hirsch has been a contributing writer for
Afterimage, Buffalo Spree,
CEPA Journal,
Contact Sheet, Digital Camera,
exposure,

visual work has been widely exhibited.
His next one-person show is scheduled at the Rockefeller Arts
Center - Art Gallery, SUNY Fredonia.
Hirsch heads Light Research, a consulting firm providing
professional services to the photographic arts field.
He is the former Executive Director and Chief Curator of CEPA
Gallery, Buffalo, NY and has curated numerous solo and group
exhibitions. Currently, he
serves on National Advisory Boards of CEPA and Freestyle
Photographic, among others.

Ian
Kent-Robinson
is a lecturer in Photography, at Wiltshire
College in Salisbury, UK.
He originally trained as a photographer
and film cameraman, and worked in these areas for several years
before taking up lecturing, first in Film & TV Production and later
in Photography.
He lectures on the BA(Hons) Photography
course at Wiltshire College, Salisbury.
Ian has been the National
Organizer for Photography courses in the UK for the Open College of
the Arts, an Examiner for City & Guilds Photography courses and a
writer and editor of exam questions.
Throughout his career Ian has recorded
voiceovers for training and entertainment programs, and for five
years was the 'station voice' and a regular broadcaster for Spire
FM, the independent local radio station for the city of Salisbury.
He regularly gives lectures and talks on
Photography to organizations in the UK and internationally and also
practices as a freelance Photographer, concentrating on people,
still-life and landscapes.
He has held an number of exhibitions
and has had several papers published.

Ken Lassiter:
Upon graduation from VA Tech in 1957 with a BS in Civil Engineering,
Ken joined Kodak in Rochester, NY. After 3 years as an engineer, Ken
became a technical editor for engineering and scientific
applications of photography. Ken worked in Kodak publications for 25
years, the last ten as Director of Kodak Publications. Next Ken was
appointed Director of Photo Trade Relations and Director of Photo
Education. In these roles he worked with photographic organizations
and colleges and high schools teaching photography programs. In
1993, Ken retired and was appointed Senior Consultant and assigned
to develop and manage the Photo Imaging Education Association by
PMA. In 2007, after 50 years in the photo business, Ken retired and
was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by PMA and Honorary
Membership by PIEA.

David Litschel
is a noted educator, photographer, author, and consultant to
industry and education. He is the Provost at Brooks Institute with
campuses in Santa Barbara and Ventura, California. Prior to taking
his current administrative role, he was a faculty member at Brooks
Institute for over 15 years. A practicing architectural and travel
photographer, he taught courses in subjects including architectural
photography, photographic fundamentals, lighting, and web site
development. He is the co-author of two books on photography,
Black and White Photography published by Delmar a division of
Thompson Learning, Inc., now in its second edition, and
Digital Photographic Capture published by Focal Press in 2005. He
has been active in many professional organizations, including
serving as President and a member of the Board of Directors of the
Photo Imaging Education Association (PIEA). He is an Advisory
Council Participant, PLUS Advisory Council, Picture Licensing Universal System. David is
a member of the Advisory Board for
Photographer’s Forum
magazine, and has served on the Board of Directors of
Photoaccess.com, in Seattle, Washington. David earned the Master of
Fine Arts degree at the University of Michigan and the Bachelor of
Fine Arts degree at the University of Colorado where he was awarded
Phi Beta Kappa.

Fern Logan:
After 20 years of working as a photographer and graphic designer in
New York City, Fern Logan brought
her experience to academe in 1990. She is currently an Associate
Professor at Southern Illinois University in the Department of
Cinema & Photography. Ms. Logan completed her graduate work in
Chicago at The School of the Art Institute. Her photography has been
shown and published regularly in this country and abroad. Her work
has been exhibited twice at The Smithsonian Institution in
Washington, D.C. Her digital imagery was awarded an Illinois Arts
Council Fellowship in 1998 and again in 2001. Also in 2001, the
Southern Illinois University Press published a book of her
portraits entitled The Artist Portrait Series. You can find her work
published in several collections one of which is Committed to the
Image, the exhibition catalog published by the Brooklyn Museum.

Brian Matsumoto
has a bachelor of science degree in photography from Southern
Illinois University at Carbondale, IL.
Brian has been a professional markets
representative of the camera division of Canon USA for nine years.
Prior to this he spent twelve years with Calumet Photographic, Inc.
in technical sales and marketing. Matsumoto has worked in
professional wedding and portrait photography, public relations
photography, and commercial photography.

Lynette Zeeng is an experienced commercial photographer and educator. Her work has been published internationally and she is the recipient of numerous wards. She is Education Development Co-ordinator and lecturer at Swinburne University. Lynette teaches photography to students from a wide range of design disciplines including communication design, film and television and multimedia. Lynette is involved in extensive research related to web-based learning and its use in higher education. Her work in this area has been presented at education conferences both in Australia and overseas. She has received two teaching awards for her endeavours. She obtained a Master of Arts (Visual Communication) from RMIT University and is undertaking a PHD at Melbourne University exploring the intrinsic beauty of the one-off Image.

Nancy McGirr
covered the wars in Central America as a Reuters staffphotographer
during the turbulent 80’s and is currently with Black Star. Herwork
has appeared in Life, Time, Newsweek, NYT, Stern, L.A. Times
and Boston Globe Magazines to mention a few. In 1991 she
founded Fotokids/Guatemala and in 2000, Guaruma Honduras. Both of
these organizations use photography to reach at risk children
affected by poverty and violent conflict.
McGirr has been an invited speaker in NAFOTO, Sao Paolo, Harvard
University, Sao Paolo, Boston, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Konica
GalleryTokyo, Photographers Gallery London, Centro Colombo
Americano, Medellin etc.
She has received numerous awards for her photography and her
educational programs. McGirr continues to lead Fotokids and Guaruma
and has given workshops in Tinduf Algiers, Granada, Spain and
Adelaide Australia. The two projects have appeared in media and
exhibited throughout the world in over12 countries and she has given
interviews to Foreign Correspondent Australia, CNN, BBC, Channel 4
U.K., Dutch, German and Austrian Public
Television, Bravo, Discovery, NY Times, Washington Post, Sunday
Telegraph,The Independent, Reuters etc.

John Sexton
was born in 1953, and resides in Carmel Valley, California.
Respected as a photographer, master
printmaker, author, and workshop instructor, he is best known for
his luminous, quiet, black and white photographs of the natural
environment.
John’s most recent book is
Recollections: Three Decades
of Photographs, an award-winning retrospective volume, published
in late 2006 by Ventana Editions.
He is Director of the John Sexton
Photography Workshops program, and teaches numerous photography
workshops each year for other programs in the United States and
abroad.
His lectures for photographic and
professional organizations, colleges and universities, discuss the
aesthetic and technical aspects of fine black and white photography.
He has presented lectures for, among
others, George Eastman House, Center for Creative Photography at the
University of Arizona, Boston University, Los Angeles County Museum
of Art, Museum of Photographic Arts, and the Seattle Art Museum.
A recipient of the 2005 North American
Nature Photography Association Lifetime Achievement Award, John is a
consultant to Eastman Kodak Company and other photographic
manufacturers.
He worked as both Technical and
Photographic Assistant, and then Technical Consultant, to Ansel
Adams from 1979 to 1984.
He continues to serve as Photographic
Special Projects Consultant to The Ansel Adams Publishing Rights
Trust. John’s photographs are included in permanent collections,
exhibitions, and publications throughout the world.
His work has been featured on the CBS
Sunday Morning show, and
on the MacNeil Lehrer News Hour.
Bank of America, General Motors, and
Eastman Kodak Company have used his photographs in national
advertising campaigns.
Sexton’s photographs have been featured
in numerous periodicals including: Time, Life, American Photo,
Backpacker, Photo Techniques, Darkroom Photography, LensWork
Quarterly, View Camera, Black and White, Zoom, Outdoor Photographer,
Outside, TWA Ambassador, Southern Accents and Popular Photography.

Michaela Beckers
Stolle:

European Marketing Department
Michaela Stolle, née Beckers, was born 1973 in
Cologne, Germany.
In 1998, with a diploma thesis in
photographic chemistry at the Agfa GmbH, she finished her studies at
the Cologne University of Applied Science with a degree in
Photoengineering (Dipl.-Ing. FH).
From 1999 till 2001 she worked for
Epson Germany in the newly founded Prographics team, from 2000 as
assistant product manager.
Mid 2001 she moved to the Epson
European Headquarter as Application Speacialist for Photography and
Fine Art within the European Prographics Team covering the EMEAR
region. Since 2004 she is European Product Manager for ProPhoto
Products.
She is also a member of the DGPh
(German Society for Photography.)
