Technical Tips
General
Submission Guidelines
Articles must be in RTF (Rich Text
Format) file format.
Articles with photographs must be submitted in
RTF (Rich Text Format) file format. (text component of the submission) and the images must be in
JPEG file format at 72 pixels per inch, no larger than 1024 pixels x
768 pixels in RGB or Grayscale format.

Please do NOT submit files
in Microsoft .docx file format!

If you are using a newer
version of Microsoft Word, select Save As > Other Formats
and the select the Save As Type as
Rich Text Format (*.rtf)

If you are editing on a
Macintosh computer, be certain to check to see that your
files end with the .rtf file extension.

If you do not have access
to Microsoft Word, you can download and install Open Office Writer for
FREE from:
http://www.openoffice.org/ (Mac/Unix/Windows)

Be certain to select File >
Save As >
Other Formats and the select the Save As Type as
Rich Text Format (*.rtf)
as your document save as type. Do NOT submit documents in the OpenOffice
proprietary file format!
Graphics

All graphics must be saved
as jpeg images, and file names must end with either the .jpg
or the .jpeg file extension (especially important for MAC
users.)

Images must 72 pixels
per inch, no larger than 1024 pixels x 768 pixels
and in RGB or Grayscale format.

If you do not have access
to an image editor, to resize your graphics, you can download free
software, or do so online:

Proof
requirements

Please also submit a PDF file of the
article to show us how you envision the correct layout--including all
graphics. To do so, save your file as a PDF from your word processing
application.

If you are using a newer
version of Microsoft Word, select Save As > Adobe PDF

If you are using
OpenOffice, select Export As PDF
-
Open and review your PDF file to make sure the
layout represents your idea of the layout, so we can publish your
article with this in mind.
Note there may be minor layout changes when we publish your
article do to web formatting issues.

New versions of the MAC OS have PDF functionality
built in, so no additional software is needed. If you are working on a
Windows computer and need a PDF export application, you can download and
install
PrimoPDF free version. Instructions can be found
on their site.
